The manager of Tick Tock Diner, a popular eatery in Clifton, N.J., with a second location near Penn Station in Manhattan, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly plotting to have his uncle — a co-owner of the restaurant — killed.

Georgios Spyropoulos, 45, hired a hit man to “torture, rob and kill” Alexandros Sgourdos because he resented the man’s power over the Clifton restaurant, The Daily News reports. The hit man was actually an undercover cop.

The nephew gave the undercover cop a $3,000 down payment along with a gun and a map to his uncle’s house. He wanted the hit man to torture his uncle, 57, for the combination to his safe that contained cash. He then wanted the man to dispose of the body so it appeared that Sgourdos had gone missing, The News reports.

The New Jersey diner was made famous when it was featured on The Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in 2007. Sgourdos is also the manager of the Manhattan location.

Spyropoulos has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempt to commit murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.
