Santa’s sleigh pulled into Wareham last week, but his delivery was a lot more than toys.

Police discovered that 8 to 10 pounds of marijuana was sent through the postal system disguised as a delivery of Christmas gifts.

A joint investigation involving detectives of the Wareham Police Department, Middleboro Police Department, and the United States Postal Service executed a search warrant regarding a large amount of marijuana intended for postal delivery at an address in East Wareham.

Upon entry into the home, detectives seized the delivered package, which contained about 8-10 pounds of marijuana wrapped in 25 individual plastic baggies. The estimated street value of the marijuana was between $18,000 and $20,000. The origin of the packages is under investigation, Wareham police said in a statement.

Zachary Driscoll, 23, who took possession of the marijuana upon delivery, was arrested by police and arraigned at Wareham 4thDistrict Court on the charge of possession with intent to distribute.
