With cancellations related to an incoming snowstorm piling up, Gov. Deval Patrick’s office is tracking the approaching storm and plans to give an update at noon Thursday.
State officials are receiving storm preparation briefings from emergency management officials and members of Patrick's Cabinet, according to the State House News Service.
Meteorologists are predicting a two-day snowstorm that will intensify Thursday evening and hit eastern Massachusetts the hardest, likely bring some flooding in coastal areas.
The House and Senate are scheduled to resume formal sessions on Thursday afternoon.
In a situational awareness statement circulated Wednesday by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the National Weather Service reported: "Heavy snow with the most significant accumulation across Eastern Mass."
"Not an historic snow storm but significant snowfall coupled with blowing and drifting snow will result in near blizzard conditions; strong winds along the coast; dangerously cold wind chills late Thursday night into Friday and again Friday night; coastal flooding for east coastal Massachusetts for three high tide cycles."
