A Massachusetts toddler has been identified as the 3-year-old drowning victim in Sunapee, N.H.
Marine Patrol officers told WCVB that Sidney Allen of Hubbardston, Mass., was playing near the shore of Perkins Pond on Sunday when she went missing. She was found in the water 10 to 15 feet from shore.
Sidney's brother Ben Allen told the Union Leader that his parents had been watching the children, but Sidney managed to wander off.
“He noticed she was gone, and he started calling for her,” Allen said of his father. “It all happened fast; she was there one second and she was gone the next.”
CPR was administered when Sidney was found, but they were unable to resuscitate her.
She was taken to New London Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her death has been ruled accidental, WCVB reports.
“We’re trying to deal with it; it’s very hard to understand. It’s really hard to believe she’s gone,” Ben told the Union Leader. “She was the most happy, wonderful girl in the world. Her middle name was Joy, and that’s what she was to us, joy.”
