Massachusetts transit officials are exploring the possibility of extending MBTA Silver Line service to East Boston and Chelsea.
MassDOTand the MBTA will hold a public meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 13 at Chelsea City Hall to introduce the Silver Line Gateway Alternatives Analysis Study.
According to a MassDOT spokeswoman, the study will review potential benefits, costs and impacts of bringing high-quality Bus Rapid Transit service to Chelsea and East Boston. Transit officials said they plan to evaluate extensions of the Silver Line Waterfront service from South Station and the Seaport District to Airport Station on the Blue Line before continuing on to Chelsea.
Next week's meeting will introduce the study process and potential alternatives, according to MassDOT. It will also offer information on current transportation conditions in Chelsea and East Boston.
MassDOT and the MBTA are seeking public input as they begin the study and encourage residents, business owners and other interested parties to participate and share their thoughts and ideas.
