Mayor Michael Nutter signed a gay-rights bill today that offers tax credits to companies that offer the same health care coverage to same-sex couples as it offers to heterosexual couples.

Philadelphia is the first major U.S. city to offer this, as well as offer tax credits to those businesses that offer transgender people health benefits, according to city officials.

The bill also requires gender-neurtral bathrooms in municipal buildings.

Philadelphia's anti-discrimination law will also be amended to include transgender people.
