MBTA says “all clear” after suspicious package shuts down Alewife Station

Alewife Station has re-opened and normal service has resumed after police investigated a suspicious package that was left on a Red Line train earlier today, MBTA officials said.

There is no word yet on what came out of that investigation.

MBTA Spokesman Joshua Robin said at 2:40 p.m. that police were are examining the package with explosives detection equipment.

At 1:22 p.m., an MBTA official tweeted that Alewife station was closed due to “police activity.”

Shuttle bus service is running between Alewife and Davis Stations for displaced passengers.
