Service on Metro-North Railroad’s Hudson Line remains suspended this morning after a freight train derailed near the Spuyten Duyvil station last night.
Ten cars of a 24-car CSX train hauling garbage derailed at about 8:40 p.m., authorities said. No one was injured.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation. It is not clear how long service will be suspended.
In the meantime, customers are urged to use the Harlem Line for points of travel north and south. Hudson Line tickets will be honored on the Harlem Line and Metro-North Hudson Line parking permits will be honored at Harlem Line parking facilities operated by LAZ.
For southbound service, reduced train service will operate between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations only and connect with shuttle bus service to Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street for southbound 1 train service.
For northbound service between Yonkers and Poughkeepsie stations only, customers should take the S Shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square for 1 train service to Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street.
Officials warned that the service suspension could cause delays on other lines. In addition, a transformer fire on Thursday night is causing delays on the New Haven line. There is reportedly no electricity along the line due to the fire that erupted in a New Haven yard. Shuttle trains are transporting passengers to Bridgeport where passengers can board an electric train to Grand Central Terminal.
