Philadelphia man Miguel Davilla, 31, pleaded guilty today to third degree murder for a 2009 incident where he allegedly beat a man to death with a baseball bat and built a coffin for him after, officials said.
He was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison.
On Feb. 28, 2009, reports say Davilla attempted to evict Ruben Woodsen, 53, from a boarding house on the 700 block of N. Croskey Street in Fairmount. Davilla was changing the locks on the door when Woodsen returned home.
Davilla responded by striking Woodsen 10 times in his head and body with a baseball bat. Woodsen died from multiple skull fractures.
After the incident, police said Davilla built a coffin for Woodsen in his living room. When police responded after calls, they found the victim lying in the coffin.
Police also found power tools and home carpentry books in the room.
