A man was arrested after a 3-year-old girl he was babysitting died while playing on a fold-out bed in their Harlem apartment.
Mohamed Barry, 50, was arrested Monday after leaving the apartment — and three children unattended — before his girlfriend's daughter became trapped in the sofa bed Sunday night, police said.
Barry was gone when Aissante Diallo was playing with a 10-year-old sibling on the pullout couch in their West 140th Street apartment and the bed snapped shut on them.
Her sibling escaped unharmed, but Aissante was unconscious and unresponsive when emergency personnel found her about 6 p.m. An autopsy will be conducted to determine her cause of death.
Barry told police that he left the apartment for only a few minutes when the incident occurred. He lives with Aissante, her siblings and mother, police said.
Barry was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
