While ice was the culprit for mass power outages in the Delaware Valley on Wednesday morning, it was a hit-and-run driver who knocked power out in Wissinoming late Tuesday night.
The accident happened at Bridge and Charles streets about 11:15 p.m., NBC10 reports. The motorist hit a utility pole, snapping the pole in half and sending power lines into the street.
The unidentified driver then fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a badly damaged car. Philadelphia police are investigating.
Workers from PECO, mere hours away from being slammed by an ice storm, responded to restore power in the area of the hit-and-run crash.
More than 400,000 customers were without power Wednesday morning in southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey as a result of the ice storm.
