Straphangers counting on the A, C and F trains will need to brace for delays later this year.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said on Tuesday that the three subway lines are slated to undergo repairs to undo ongoing damage related to Superstorm Sandy.
The MTA stands ready to spend an estimated $50 million to repair both the Cranberry tunnel, which carries the A and C trains, and F train's Rutgers tunnel.
MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said that the work on the subway lines wouldn't start before the agency finishes its work with the R train's Montague tunnel, which runs under the East River and also sustained damages after the 2012 storm.
Work on the R train is scheduled to end in October 2014 after 14 months of no weekday service between Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Unlike the R train, Ortiz said the A, C and F trains would only shut down for repairs over several as of yet unscheduled weekends. The MTA said it was too early for a timeline or other potential service changes.
The three lines are far from the only systems undergoing repairs after Sandy. The G train's Greenpoint Tube that connects Brooklyn to Queens is also scheduled for weekend closures between July and September 2014.
