Musicians angry at sound of Rockettes’ music

Local musicians are making a lot of noise about the Rockettes’ “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre because the show is using recorded music.

“It’s a deterioration of the arts that I think that we as a society should probably resist,” said Gail Eaton, a spokeswoman for the Boston Musicians’ Association. “Anyone can stay home make a bowl of popcorn and watch Rockettes on TV, but that’s not the same thing as a true theatrical performance.”

The association took their message to this weekend’s debut of the show. A group of musicians played aboard a double-decker bus trying to bring attention to the matter.

While a live orchestra is used for the New York City show, officials for the Wang and the Rockettes have said the touring shows were designed for recorded music and have used it for years.
