A Nassau County police officer, 32, was shot and wounded while responding to a call of a burglary inside a New Hyde Park home early Wednesday morning.

The officer had to undergo surgery on his hip and is recovering in the hospital, NBC 4 New York reports. He is in critical but stable condition.

Two suspects have been taken into custody and charges are pending, Inspector Kenneth Lack said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 2 a.m. as the officer approached the home on Campbell Street. Police said they are not searching for any more suspects and that there is no public threat.

The officer has been with the department for six years.
