Neighbors in Feltonville say their pleas for attention to a 'Wild West' style shootout that left one dead are being ignored.
“The bottom line is to call attention to this,” said Michael Blackie, member of Feltonville United Neighbors. “We want an increased police presence and increased police patrols, especially in that area at night when the bars close.”
The incident reportedly occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday Dec. 17 at Rising Sun and Wyoming avenues, when Broderick Howard, 26, shot first at intended victim Khalif Murray, 25.
Murray was hit in the chest and injured, but shot and killed Howard.
Police reportedly found 37 shell casings and two guns at the scene. They later recovered a third gun linked to the shooting.
“Apparently they were coming from the bar,” Blackie said. “You can defend yourself, but you only need one bullet to defend yourself.”
Blackie said a community meeting on Friday about the incident was attended by 11 residents but ignored by media, police, and elected officials.
