New Jersey Senate to take up bill on gay nups

TRENTON. The New Jersey state Senate is to vote tomorrow on a bill to legalize same-sex marriage.

Proponents hoped to push the measure through the Legislature before incoming Gov. Chris Christie, who opposes gay marriage, takes office Jan. 19. Gov. Jon Corzine supports the bill, which would still need passage in the state Assembly before it could reach his desk. Senate support for the bill is uncertain because many legislators have not made their views public. Five states allow gay marriage.

New York’s Senate rejected a bill in December.
