Some New Yorkers will likely have to dole out a little extra in cab fare Tuesday morning, after a 17 percent price increase goes into effect just after midnight tonight.
Before implementing the new fare structure, approved in July by the Taxi and Limousine Commission, taxis must have their fare meters recalibrated and external markings updated to reflect the new prices.
They are not, however, required to implement the new fare structure until their first inspections after Sept. 30, so pricing may be different from cab to cab throughout the city.
