New York State’s smoking grades

Even though New York City has some of the lowest smoking rates in the nation, New York State received mixed grades from the American Lung Association yesterday. New York got an “F” for tobacco prevention, since the state only spends less than 30% of recommended CDC amount on tobacco-control programs. However, New York got an “A” for raising the state cigarette tax to $4.35 per pack, now the highest in the country.
