In response to growing concern over brain injuries in the National Football League, a players association is working on a $100 million deal with Harvard University to study and treat players’ injuries and illnesses over the next decade, according to various media reports.
The National Football League Players Association is reportedly negotiating the deal with the NFL, and will announce the project Thursday at the NFLPA annual Super Bowl press conference in New Orleans.
According to a report by CNN, the funding would be used to diagnose, treat and prevent professional football players’ injuries and illnesses.
More than 3,800 players have sued the NFL over head injuries, according to a recent Associated Press review.
Last week, Metro reported on a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of former NFL linebacker Junior Seau, who killed himself last May. Seau’s family is suing the league for allegedly ignoring and concealing evidence of the risks of head trauma while playing football.
