NYPD: Convicted sex offender chokes, tries to assault woman in Astoria elevator

A convicted sex offender punched, choked and tried to sexually assault a woman in Astoria, Queens, on Monday, police said.

A convicted sex offender attacked a woman in the elevator of her Queens apartment building earlier this week, police said.

Elvis McKenzie, 27, convicted of sexual abuse in 2007, is suspected of punching, choking and trying to sexually assault a 53-year-old woman after following her into the elevator of her Astoria building around 11:30 a.m. Monday, according to the NYPD.

McKenzie fled the scene, police said. The woman was treated and released from a nearby hospital.

According to state records, McKenziewas released from prison in March 2011 after serving three years for sexually abusing a 26-year-old woman he knew "by forceful compulsion." He was arrested by White Plains police.

According to the NYPD, he had been arrested at least eight times between 2006 and 2012.

McKenzieis described as 6-foot-4, weighing about 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
