NYPD: Transit cops fire at suspected carjacker who sped past Verrazano Bridge toll

Police are looking for a suspected carjacker who allegedly sped past transit cops firing at him near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge toll plaza on Monday.

Police are looking for a suspected carjacker who allegedly sped past transit cops firing at him near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge toll plaza early on Monday.

Tyree Brown, 25, allegedly hijacked a black 2006 Hummer at gunpoint just after 6 a.m. Sunday on Staten Island, police said.

Bridge and tunnel officers spotted the Hummer in the toll plaza on the Staten Island side of the overpass around 1:15 a.m. Monday after an alert was issued for the car, according to the MTA and NYPD.

The car was stopped and officers fired several shots when Brown sped through the toll plaza, officials said.

A female passenger got out of the Hummer before shots were fired and was taken into custody, police said.

Brown allegedly abandoned the SUV at Narrows Road North and Steuben Street, officials said.

"This individual should be considered armed and dangerous," Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said.

Police said Brown is on parole. His last known address is on Lamport Boulevard in the Arrochar section of Staten Island.

He is described as black, 5-foot-8, 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police said Brown has "Dorothea" tattooed on his neck.

Brown was last seen wearing a red hooded jacket and tan pants, police said.
