NYPD seeks sex assault victims

After a spate of sexual attacks reported over the weekend, including an alleged rape in Queens, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly is now urging more victims citywide to come forward.

“People perhaps are … not reporting,” said Kelly over the weekend. But, he added, police can only stop the sex assaults if they know “where they happen, when they happen.”

As many as 20 different women have reported being groped throughout Brooklyn, according to police, in neighborhoods ranging from Park Slope to Bay Ridge.

Last week, police caught one man who they think may have been behind several of the gropings, but suspects in new sex attacks remain on the loose.

In Long Island City, police are looking for a man who they say has groped up to six women since Sept. 15. The man, described as Hispanic and in his 40s, targets women walking alone. He rides a black mountain bike up to his victims and then grabs either their breasts or their backsides before pedaling away, said police. He most recently groped a 24-year-old woman on Oct. 7 in Sunnyside.

Last Thursday, a 20-year-old woman was attacked while walking in Jamaica, Queens. A man threatened her with a box cutter and raped her, said police.
