A drunk off-duty NYPD police officer was arrested and charged after hitting a pedestrian in Staten Island early Friday morning, police said.
Police Officer Joseph McClean, 29, was driving while intoxicated along Richmond Terrace when he hit William Hemphill, 51, around 6:18 a.m. near Simpson Avenue in Mariners Harbor, cops said.
Emergency personnel transported Hemphill to Richmond University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
McClean was taken into custody at the scene.
He was charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired, police said.
