An 18-year-old man was charged for stabbing a 71-year-old woman and 54-year-old man in Olney Wednesday morning after attempting to steal the couple's car keys, police said.
Anthony Waters, of the 5900 block of N 4th Street, was charged with attempted murder, among other charges, police said Thursday.
Police arrived at the couple's home, also on the 5900 block, and found the woman covered in blood and riddled with between 15 and 20 stab wounds just outside the front door of her home. Waters was standing near her body, police said.
Police followed a trail of blood along the pathway between the two properties and inside the home's enclosed backyard porch found a the older man near the threshold of the living room with stab wounds to his stomach and chest.
Both were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where both remain in critical condition.
After further investigation police said Waters entered the home around 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday through an unlocked rear door intending to steal the couple's car keys so he could eventually sell the car.
He started stabbing the couple after they caught him in the act.
Waters was also charged with aggravated and simple Assault; robbery, burglary, theft and other charges.
