A New York City Police detective was arrested early Thursday and charged with driving under the influence while on the clock. He also accidentally shoot his partner in the wrist.

Jay Poggi, 57, was arrested while on duty inside the 106 Precinct in Jamaica Queens.

The Queens DA Richard Brown verified reports that Poggi accidentally discharged his weapon while on the job, inadvertently shooting his partner Detective Matthew Sullivan in the wrist.

The New York Daily News reported that Poggi drove his injured partner to Jamaica Hospital, where he alleged refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Officials would not say if he did or didn’t refuse the test, and only affirmed that Poggi was charged with driving under the influence.

Authorities also confirmed that the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating the incident.

As of Thursday evening, police said that Poggi was found unfit for duty and suspended.
