One Million Moms march for gun control

One Million Moms for Gun Control will march across the Brooklyn Bridge today to City Hall, inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr.’s message of non-violence and the gun regulations enacted by Governor Cuomo last week, the NY Post reports.

New York state now has the toughest gun legislation in the nation, and the Moms want Congress to take the Empire State’s lead and reinstate the federal assault-weapons ban as well as limit ammunition purchases.

“I think it’s important that Congress knows we are dedicated to this cause and we vote,” explained 1MM4GC National Director of Outreach Kim Russel.

The group came together after the mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut last month.

The march will culminate in a rally at City Hall. 1MM4GC founder Shannon Watts and Brooklyn City Councilwoman Letitia James, an increasingly outspoken proponent for handgun regulation, are among the scheduled speakers at the rally.
