A Pennsylvania woman told detectives that "crazy voices" told her to sit on her two young children in a full bathtub of water in an attempt to kill them so she can focus raising the eldest, according to reports.
Laurel Schlemmer's youngest son, a 3-year-old, drowned to death while his 6-year-old brother is critically injured with no brain activity, reports say. Her oldest, a 7-year-old, is said to have been at school at the time.
Schlemmer, 40, of McCandless, Allegheny County — about 11 miles outside of Pittsburgh — is being held without bail. Her charges include criminal homicide, aggravated assault and child endangerment.
Schlemmer allegedly filled the bathtub, told the two younger children to take off their pajamas and get into the tub. Reports say she then got in, full clothed, and told officials "crazy voices" told her to push the boys down. She then called 911.
Now, court records are surfacing that shows the mother has been in trouble in the past with the treatment of her children. In 2009, she was given a citation for leaving a toddler unattended in a parked car where temperatures reached 112 degrees. The child was not hurt.
