Pedestrian killed by drunk driver in Queens

A 76-year-old man was struck and killed by a drunk driver in the Woodhaven section of Queens on Wednesday.

John Eberling was crossing Jamaica Avenue at 80th Street at about 4:30 p.m. when he was hit by a maroon Nissan Pathfinder, police said. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital and pronounced dead.

The driver, who remained at the scene, has been identified as 47-year-old Viveshdyal Thakoordyal. He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
