Pedestrian killed by NYC Sanitation truck in Brooklyn

A 25-year-old man was struck and killed by a Department of Sanitation truck as he crossed a street in the early hours of Sunday in Crown Heights, police said.

The 45-year-old driver was traveling north on the Van Wyck Expressway when the victim attempted to cross the busy road just before 2:10 a.m., police said. The vehicle, a 2010 Ford van, hit the man head-on.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, suffered extreme trauma to the head. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver remained on the scene and has not been arrested.An investigation is ongoing.

The Department of Sanitation released a statement offering its condolences to the victim’s family.

“The Department mourns this tragedy, and will work with the Police Department in their full and complete investigation of this accident,” the statement said.
