A 9-month-old dog with “horrendous” injuries she apparently sustained from repeated beatings is recovering at the Animal Rescue League in Boston and police are searching for the person responsible for the animal cruelty.
The dog, a terrier named Hope, suffered eight fractures to her hind legs, as well as fractures to her cheekbones, doctors said.
Hope was found in the closet of a home in Fitchburg in February. She’s undergone multiple surgeries and is expected to undergo a few more before she is put up for adoption. The cost of the surgeries has put a financial strain on the agency.
“The extent of her injuries just floored me,” said Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore.
Police said they have identified a person of interest and are working to locate that person.
