In a sudden change of heart, former Philly boxer and celebrity boxing mogul Damon Feldman said on Twitter that he was calling off the match-up between George Zimmerman and DMX -- but then cast doubt on the announcement, saying he would announce his final decision at a press conference on Tuesday.
"I want to thank everyone for the good n bad comments I've made the choice to cancel the fight w George Zimmermann more to life then money," Feldman tweeted just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Feldman's decision was praised on Twitter; however, he then deleted that tweet and said he would "think about it," but later tweeted that he is "done with Zimmerman."
"I'm going to make my final decision and let it be known this Tuesday at press conference this is the biggest controversial event I ever did," Feldman tweeted, later tweeting, "Its so controversial and confusing decisions have to be made I'm all over the place with this I'll make it at Tuesday's press conference."
A few hours later, Feldman tweeted "I'm done with George Zimmerman."
"I made the right decision I could of made big $$$ but I would rather be happy," he added.
Feldman was criticized for arranging the match, which many saw as profiting from the death of Trayvon Martin, 17, whom Zimmerman killed in February 2012 during a controversial altercation. Zimmerman was later acquitted of murder charges.
While Feldman has arranged controversial matches in the past for his famed Celebrity Boxing series -- for example featuring Tonya Harding, who was accused of having figure skating rival Nancy Kerrigan assaulted, and "Long Island Lolita" Amy Fisher, who shot her married older boyfriend Joey Butafuoco's wife in the face -- but none of them had ever killed anybody, before.
Feldman defended himself on Twitter by saying at one point that he didn't know the history of Martin's death, and that he hadn't followed the case at the time.
Feldman today has tweeted five times that he will only speak further on the matter at Tuesday's press conference.
DMX's rep confirmed that the fight is canceled, the Star-Ledger reported.
