PHOTOS: ‘No Pants Subway Ride’ rolls through Philly

The “No Pants Subway Ride” rolled through Philadelphia today, and despite the brisk weather, most participants received warm welcomes from fellow commuters.

“It really brings students into the subway more,” said Drexel University biology major Richard Furstein, who headed up this year’s event.

The participants each year consist largely of students at Drexel and Temple Universities. “I think we need to bring student life into urban infrastructure,” Furstein said. “They become so much more invested in it and this does it in a fun way. We’re not forcing people to ride the subway – it’s an adventure.”

Comedy troupe Improv Everywhere started the annual meetup in New York City 12 years ago and similar events have since caught on in cities across the world.
