Police on Saturday arrested an East Mount Airy man for allegedly firing shots into a crowd during a Strawberry Mansion street party.
Officers were called to the area of 32nd and Berks Street around 11:15 p.m.
There, they allegedly saw Shakur Smith, 18, standing in the middle of 32nd Street firing multiple shots from a handgun.
Smith then allegedly wrapped a t-shirt around his shooting hand in an attempt to cover the firearm and blend in with the crowd.
He was taken into custody following a brief struggle and foot pursuit, according to investigators.
A gun was allegedly recovered from the scene.
Officers a short time later located an apparent victim at Hahnemann University Hospital.
The man was shot once in the chest and placed in critical condition.
Smith was arraigned Monday and bail was set at 10 percent of $750,000.
He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, possessing an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment and firearms offenses.
Smith is next due in court for a preliminary hearing on June 20.
