Mayor Michael Nutter, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey and other city officials were near the McCarthy Stables in Fairmount Park yesterday to announce a new home for the Philadelphia Police Mounted Unit.<br /><br />Police Commissioner Ramsey's longtime dream was realized today when the Philadelphia Police's Mounted Unit, which he has championed since his appointment, got a permanent home in Fairmount Park.<br /><br />The Philadelphia Police Foundation launched a "Pony Up for Police" fundraiser with a goal of at least $1.2 million to cover architectural expenses and operating costs for the stable's first two years. Sen. Larry Farnese secured a $100,000 grant from the state and Verizon donated $10,000.
