Complaints of a strong, rotten smell led police to find skeletal remains and a distraught woman inside a Brooklyn apartment.

Officers responded to a call of a foul odor coming from an apartment on 15th Avenue in Borough Park at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The police at the scene said they entered the garbage-filled residence when they found a 28-year-old woman in the home threatening to harm herself.

The woman, who remains unidentified, was taken to Maimonides Medical Center by emergency workers for a psychiatric evaluation.

Not long after, officers still at the home discovered decomposing remains that investigators were unable to identify.

Authorities said that the the medical examiner's office will autopsy the remains to determine both identity and the cause of death.

No charges or arrests have been announced as of early Monday.
