Police on Wednesday released the identity of a man arrested in connection with a homicide Sunday night in West Philadelphia.
Markland Jones, 26, was shortly before 6 p.m. shot multiple times near 50th and Market streets and pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Investigators said SEPTA police officers saw Shakeal Johnson, 20, fleeing the scene of the shooting on foot.
Johnson, of the 400 block of South 56th Street, allegedly ran into a house on the 5100 block of Sansom Street without the homeowner's permission.
He was then arrested.
Police said Johnson is not the suspected shooter, but that investigators believe he drove the vehicle involved in the murder.
Johnson was arraigned about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. He is charged with murder, conspiracy, robbery with the infliction of serious bodily injury, criminal trespassing, attempting to elude an officer and reckless endangerment.
He is next due in court Sept. 18 for a preliminary hearing.
