Police identify suspect in mezuzah burnings

Police have identified a suspect in connection with the burning of 12 mezuzahs in Williamsburg.

Cops are searching for Ruben Ublies, 35, after 11 mezuzahs were burned inside 85 Taylor St. on Monday, Holocaust Remembrance Day, and another mezuzah was burned inside 130 Clymer St. on Tuesday.

Ublies was spotted on surveillance video inside 130 Clymer St.

Police are investigating the burnings as a possible hate crime. Mezuzahs are pieces of parchment that contain verses from the Torah and are usually hung on the doorposts of Jewish homes.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-9 and weighing about 130-160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt with white stripes, a purple doo-rag and a black Yankees jacket.
