Delaware State Police on Thursday arrested two men for allegedly dealing cocaine from a Smyrna motel, a development they say was the culmination of a monthlong investigation.
Detectives with the Kent County Drug Unit, with assistance from several other state and county task forces, around 2 p.m. executed a search warrant at the Economy Inn Motel, located at 4133 S. DuPont Highway.
Once inside the room, officers said they encountered Anthony Jones, 38, of Smyrna, who allegedly failed to follow commands to get on the ground and instead fled into the bathroom, where he began to flush cocaine down the toilet.
Officials said they were eventually able to wrestle Jones under control and take him into custody.
Also arrested inside the motel room was Elzie Gibbs, 50, of Dover.
Detectives allegedly recovered from the scene 15.5 grams of cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia believed to have been used to distribute the cocaine.
Jones and Gibbs were both transported to Troop 3 in Dover and arraigned at JP2.
Jones is charged with the possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, the possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver, first-degree conspiracy, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.
He was jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $31,000 cash bond.
Gibbs is charged with the possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, the possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver, first-degreey conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence.
He was jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $29,000 cash bond.
