Police arrested two Philadelphia men for beating a man unconscious in Washington Square and stealing his wallet, cellphone, and gold and diamond necklace.

Matthew Morris, 27, of Springhill Avenue, and Miguel Maldonado, 32, of D Street, were charged with robbery, aggravated assault and other related offenses on Dec. 7.

About 2 a.m. on Nov. 10, Morris and Maldonado allegedly approached a 36-year-old man from behind on the 200 block of South Camac Street. They punched him, knocking him to the ground, police said, and continued to beat him while he was unconscious. They stole his belongings and fled.

Surveillance video led to tips that helped Central Detectives Division and the Real Time Crime Center to identify Morris as one of the suspects. Both men were arrested a short time later, officials said.
