City inspectors recently shut down a pair of Dorchester auto body shops, including one after neighbors complained about prostitutes coming and going from a makeshift bedroom set up behind the building.

The shops, one on Dorchester Avenue and the other on Washington Street, were shut down after the Inspectional Services Department’s Auto Shop Team conducted a series of investigative inspections that began June 1, ISD said Monday. The two shops were inspected after the city received complaints from neighbors about illicit activity taking place.

During the inspections, officials found violations including excessive trash and debris, outdated permits and improper storage of flammable materials.

Also, at the Dorchester Avenue shop, inspectors found a “makeshift sleeping quarters” in the rear of the property that was made up of a tarp, box spring and mattress. Neighbors had complained to the city regarding prostitutes coming and going from the area,” ISD said.

Both shops were immediately shut down after the violations were found and a stop work order will be in place until all violations have been corrected.
