Pub crawls for a breast cancer cure

Sarah Rothenberg and her friends are trying to raise $10,000 to fight breast cancer so they can participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk in Atlanta.

To get to their goal, the group of ladies, who have coined the name “Boston’s Breast Dressed,” decided to host a giant pub crawl through the streets of South Boston yesterday.

“[We all] have had close friends and family who have passed away from breast cancer,” Rothenberg said. “It’s affecting all of us, and we know what a tragic disease it is. Every dollar we can raise brings us closer to finding a cure.”

What better way to do that, Rothenberg said, than have a “Sunday Funday” gathering at several Southie hot spots.

“It’s one of the biggest days in Southie anyways. So we thought, why not?”

Starting at the Junction Bar and Grill on Dorchester Street, Rothenberg and a crew of pub crawlers made their way through the neighborhood.

Rothenberg and four friends decided to create the fundraising team after Rothenberg participated in the 3-Day for the Cure walk last year and had a positive experience.

“It was just so powerful and incredible,” she said.

Money raised for the 60-mile trek in Atlanta will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.

The group is planning an additional fundraising party prior to the Oct. 21 walk.

“We are trying to surpass our goal,” said Rothenberg.
