A U.S. Congresswoman from Queens was assaulted in D.C. Tuesday night, officials said.
Rep. Grace Meng was hit in the back of the head and robbed of her Gucci handbag while walking home from dinner near Sixth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue near Capitol Hill, according to a statement from her office.
"While this was a frightening ordeal, I fortunately was not seriously injured," Meng said in a statement. "Obviously, things could have been much worse."
During the attack, Meng fell to the ground. She suffered a bruise on her chin and underwent a CAT scan at George Washington University Hospital.
The perpetrator fled on foot after the attack, according Meng's office.
U.S. Capitol Police said the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.
