Quincy Center Station garage closes

The MBTA’s Quincy Center Station parking garage closed indefinitely Wednesday due to water damage and concrete deterioration, according to T Spokesman Joe Pesaturo, who cited public safety as a reason for the closure.

Structural engineers who have inspected 41-year-old garage regularly recommended the shut down.

“The MBTA is advising customers that plenty of spaces are available at the parking facilities at the Quincy Adams and North Quincy Stations,” Pesaturo said.

The garage is the oldest in the MBTA system, and has an average of 450 cars park there on a typical weekday.

There are no issues with the Red Line and Commuter Rail stations at Quincy Center, Pesaturo said.
