Riders trying to get to work were in an outrage this morning due to shuttle buses replacing Red Line trains after a trash fire broke out along the tracks.
According to reports, power to the third rail along the Red Line was shut off and service was suspended in both directions as buses shipped commuters from JFK/UMass to Harvard Square.
At 9:10 a.m. firefighters responded to MBTA Downtown Crossing for a smoke condition in the Red Line tunnel between Park St. and Downtown Crossing.
Crews were trying to investigate possible smoldering cables, but the fire was out within a half-hour and crews cleared the tunnel, according to Boston Firefighter tweets.
By 9:50 a.m., the MBTA began restoring power and service was scheduled to resume.
