In an effort to lure fans back to Fenway Park, the Red Sox will lower food and beer prices for the month of April.
“We’re looking for ways to fill the ballpark, and hopefully this will help,” Chief Operating Officer Sam Kennedy told the Boston Globe. “But more importantly, that it be received as a thank you given everything we’ve been through the last nine, 10 years together. We thought it was an appropriate gesture.”
Fenway Franks will be buy one, get one free. Beer will be $5 for a 12-ounce cup. It’s usually $7.50-$8.50.
During the first two innings, kids under the age of 14 will get a free hot dog, juice and crackers.
The Sox are coming off a miserable 2012 season in which the team finished 69-93. A long-time Fenway sellout streak is expected to end during the first month of the season.
Tickets are still available for all 17 home games in April, including the home opener April 8 against the Baltimore Orioles. Season ticket sales are down about 10 percent.
