It’ll be a rolling rally redux on Saturday.[embedgallery id=245251]
The city announced on Thursday that the Red Sox World Series victory parade will take place Saturday at 10 a.m.
City leaders said about two dozen Boston Duck Tours boats carrying Red Sox players and others will leave Fenway Park at 10 a.m., head down Boylston Street and then into the Charles River.
The parade will begin near Boylston and Ipswich streets right outside of Fenway Park. The rally will continue along Boylston Street and follow that roadway past the Boston Marathon finish line and the Boston Common. It will take a left onto Tremont Street, take a slight left onto Cambridge Street near City Hall and then it will take a right onto Blossom Street. From there, the rally should enter the Charles River for a splash down into that dirty water.
“The ducks are ready. The fans are ready. Let’s celebrate on Saturday starting at 10am,” Mayor Thomas Menino tweeted Thursday.
Boston police will have extra officers on hand during the parade and backpacks will be subject to random searches along the parade route, the city said. Also, the city said that underage and public drinking will not be tolerated.
Parking bans at various locations along and near the parade route will be in place starting just after midnight on Saturday. The streets included in the parade route will be closed to traffic starting at 9 a.m. and will not reopen until after the rally at about 1 p.m.
The Red Sox won the World Series on Wednesday night, beating the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6. It was the first time the team won the World Series at Fenway Park since 1918.
It is the team’s third World Series title — and rolling rally — since 2004. Some estimates have put the crowds at 1 million for previous rolling rallies.
