MIT police officer Sean Collier, 27, was shot to death April 18, allegedly by the Boston Marathon bombers. MIT police officer Sean Collier, 27, was shot to death April 18, allegedly by the Boston Marathon bombers.

A Cambridge man facing federal gun and drug charges allegedly is the person who supplied the Boston Marathon bombing suspects with the gun they allegedly used to kill an MIT police officer.

Indictments charging Stephen Silva were unsealed Tuesday, according to court records, but made no mention of the Tsarnaev brothers. He was also scheduled to have an initial appearance Tuesday afternoon before a magistrate judge.

Citing sources, NBC News reported that he is the source of the gun used to kill Officer Sean Collier days after the bombings.

Authorities have accused the Tsarnaev brothers of fatally shooting Collier before getting involved in a gun battle with police.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is awaiting his federal trial related to the 2013 bombing. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed during the gun battle with police in Watertown.
