A Reading man allegedly tried to rob an 8-year-old girl at knifepoint Tuesday evening as she walked to a corner store near her Reading home, according to a report from WFMZ-TV.
The young victim was around 4:30 p.m. given $5 to buy carrots for her grandmother, who was making beef stew, according to authorities.
But as she walked along the 1200 block of Clover Street, a man – who police identified as 18-year-old Jackenzy Pierre – allegedly said, "Give all your money," while brandishing a 6-inch kitchen knife.
Investigators said the girl refused to turn over the cash and ran home.
She later identified Pierre as the man who tried to rob her.
He is being held at the Berks County Jail on $50,000 bail.
