For some New Yorkers, a fairy tale is a rent-controlled apartment and a subway that arrives on time.
But this Friday they’ll get a taste of the real thing as hundreds flock to royal wedding parties across the five boroughs.
“A lot of people in New York love England,” said Louise Gale, 38, co-founder of the English ex-pat group Big Apple Brits. “You don’t have a royal family in the United States.”
Gale helped organize the Royal Wedding NYC event in DUMBO. Starting at 5:30 a.m., hundreds of people will gather for a viewing party underneath the Manhattan Bridge. By 9 a.m., the champagne will start flowing.
Partygoers will celebrate with a fancy hat raffle, an egg and spoon race and will even have the chance to renew their vows. If that’s not enough for you, the ceremony will be broadcast at Times Square starting at 4:30 a.m.
And in a few short weeks, American brides will also be able to wear Kate’s dress. Long Island designer Shala Moradi will wake up at 4 tomorrow to sketch the bridal dress, which will be duplicated for the masses.
“They all want to feel like a princess,” the Faviana designer said.
