Saugus police are renewing their call for help to identify the driver of a car in a fatal hit-and-run incident that left a Lynn woman dead.

Kathleen O’Neil would have turned 45 this month. On June 19, 2011, the Lynn resident was walking along Route 107 northbound, also known as the Saugus Turnpike, when police believe she was hit by a car before 1 a.m. and left injured in the median of the roadway.

Police said they have no strong leads in the case and that it has gone cold.

“Someone knows what happened that day, and we need them to come forward,” Saugus Police Lieutenant Ronald Giorgetti said in a statement.

Authorities said their only clue is another crash that happened nearby, which may or may not be related to O’Neil’s death. The occupants of the car that crashed about 50 yards away from where O’Neil was found fled the scene. Police tracked down a passenger and later the driver who said they had nothing to do with O’Neil’s death. Police said there was not enough evidence to charge them.

Police said that any tip may help. Anyone with information can call 781-941-1199 or an anonymous tip line at 781-231-4037.
